Yoga. You either love it, hate it, or have never tried it. It’s usually associated with breathing and helping you relax. Clearing your mind for an hour or so and listening to your body. Which it does. All of that is 100% true. But yoga is so much more than that.
Yoga is exercise. It’s good for you and your health. It works out and challenges your body, while putting you in a meditative state of mind. It is no better or worse than other forms of exercise, but it is unique because your body and brain both get a work out.
Yoga has also been shown to help with weight loss. This seems like a no brainer if you read the last paragraph. Yoga is an exercise, and most exercises are shown to help with weight loss. But a lot of people do not associate yoga with weight loss. When you’re stressed, you eat. When you’re relaxed, you don’t. Yoga helps you de-stress, leading to healthier eating habits.
If you’re a new yogi, we recommend finding a teacher before trying it on your own. This will ensure you’re using the proper techniques and are not doing anything that could possibly cause you harm. We do offer yoga here at the spa. The first class will be on January 6th at 9 am. So come by and see us, do some yoga, and get your zen on.
